Subject: Haguewood family
To: tom@tommcknight.com
Hey,
I am a descendant of William J. Haguewood and Martha Ann Hutchinson/Hutcherson and was just looking through some stuff on the computer tonight. I found my father, Robert Keeley "Scott" Haguewood listed with his parents, but my mother was not mentioned.
I don't know how to add it, but would you please add this information?
Robert Keeley Haguewood (Scott) was his nickname and not part of his given name.
He married Nannie Blanche Young, b. Feb. 25, 1900 on May 10, 1925 in Tuscaloosa, AL. She died Jan. 30, 1994 in Tuscaloosa, AL.
I am an only child and have an only child who has two children. Should they be added to my father's listing?
Also, I noted that you have Ellis Haguewood's parents as William R. Haguewood and Sudie Giles. His parents were William R. Haguewood and Marienne ?. Sudie was his grandmother. Ellis is an adopted child.
Thanks for all of the great work that you do with the Hutchinson/Hutcherson and Lancaster family records.
Sincerely,
Joyce Haguewood Lamont

"Peter Shrote, Jr. learned the trade of millwright in his native county and
resided there until 1846. He then went to West Tennessee and located in Henry
County where he bought land and engaged in farming and stock raising. He died
in his new home about a year and a half later.
By his first marriage to Elizabeth Conn, who father was Samuel Conn, Peter
Shrote, Jr. had a son George Washington Shrote, who was born 3 Aug 1829. His
mother died when he was four years old. He moved to Nebraska Territory in
1855, and changed the spelling of his name to SROTE.
America Wisehart Shrote was almost seven feet tall and weighed close to two
hundred pounds. "Connie" Cook of Murry, KY, clearly recalls how very tall and
statuesque her grandmother was, as well as being a very strong woman who could
do a man's job if need be. America's daughter, Rebecca Shrote, was nearly six
and one-half feet tall.
After Peter Shrote's death, America took her two children back up to
Jefferson County, KY, presumably to her family home. Here she me and married
Donald Bailey. They returned to live in New Concord, coming back in a covered
wagon with all their possessions and four children".
Manuscript, "The Shroat/Sroat Genealogy", 5pp., by Donald and Ena Sroat,
Information from Betty Shroat Riley, of Murray, KY.

Note: [9]
"In 1828 my Uncle Samuel Sprott came to the United States, landing at
Charleston, South Carolina, In 1838 my father concluded that he would try his
fortune in the new world, and he came to the United States, landing at
Philadelphia, where he remained for eighteen months, when he concluded to join
his brother Samuel who had moved to Alabama, several years before.
My father commenced farming in which he continued until his death. He was
not very successful as a farmer. Up to the time of his marriage he had never
done any work, his father being supposed to be in good circumstances, but owing
to some defect in the title to his land he lost nearly all he had and my father
found that he had to make his own way in the world, which he was ill prepared
to do, thus showing the importance of every one learning to do something, it
matters not what their future prospects may be.
My father settled in Sumter County about three or four miles north of
Gaston, in January 1840, and continued ot reside on the same place until August
1862, when he died. I left him only two days before he died, to rejoin my
regiment, having been at home for several weeks on sick leave. The last words
he ever said to me were 'Go my son and do your duty'.
