I was so happy to find your page on the monument.
My Great-Grandfather William P. Long and 3 of this brothers names are on the monument. W.P. Long Co.A, 12th Cavalry, C.S.A.(Armistead's Regt. of Cav.) was surrendered at Citronelle, Ala. May 14, 1865, a Private. Residence: Sumter Co., Ala. His name was not found on the muster rolls of the co. He enlisted in the Fall of 1864 at the age of 16. This information is from a Long Family History book that I have.
I have some information on the 3 other brothers. Also, in this history book is a letter from the State of Alabama Dept. of Archives and History. It lists the engagement that James H. Long, and Thomas M. Long were in. There is not much information on Henry D. Long.
W.P. Long died June 26, 1926 in Plainview, Hale County, Texas and is buried there. Thank you for the beautiful picture of the monument. I-mail me if you want the other information I have.
